Putting on the show!

So I’ve put myself on the other side of the fence now and decided to put on my own craft show event. I’ve teamed up with the ever so awesome people behind IWAN’s the Bubble, Yvonne, Garo and Travis and together we are putting on a long awaited show full of zen, indie crafts and a tribute to our vendors. Handmade Souk:Indie Craft Emporium and After Party will consist of our awesome vendors and their intricate independent finds, including jewelry made from electrical parts, henna and feather extensions, photography, vintage finds, reconstructed clothing, and art. Along side the vendors there will be a splash of  ambient acoustic live music to set the mood to this Moroccan themed indie craft event. At the end of the event there will be an added bonus, an after party just for our vendors and everyone is invited! The idea behind that is that I’ve vended at several shows and I always see my other crafty friends behind their tables far across the room and besides talk about what we’ve made to rsvp’ers of the event I’d like to chat with my friends and catch up. So we’ve come up with the idea to celebrate the vendors and all their hard work. During the after party there will be more live performances that are more up beat and a ton o’ fun! And who knows, I may even surprise you with cake!

The show will take place at IWAN’s the Bubble in Fort Lauderdale, FL on February 25, 2012 from 12pm-6pm and the after party is from 7pm-12am. If you are interested in vending at this awesome event just click here to fill out the vendor submission form. Thanks a bunch!

Indie Craft Bazaar-My Last Show for 2011

This won’t be my first time vending at an ICB but it will be my first time as Nevermay. I’m so excited. Its at a new location. Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale. This is a venue where lots a big time musicians play. I’m from Chicago so I’m going to compare it to the Metro. There is going to be lots of great vendors including many new ones. I’ve made more granny square bracelets and added some cute crochet headbands to the inventory. The show is in 2 days so today and tomorrow I will be focusing on making a couple new dresses. I’ve been able to organize my work space (basically clean it off) so I’m hoping this will motivate me to turn on the sewing machine. I’ve kinda been slacking on it only because this new love for crocheting has gotten in the way, but its also a great hobby because it makes me just sit back and relax the day away while my hands and fingers do all the work. Alright! So I better not waste any time and get started. If you are interested in coming to the show please click on the flyer below to RSVP and find out more info about it. Also, when you arrive please be sure to mention my name at the door, either Nevermay or May will do, because there is a contest going on and I would love to win! win! win! Thanks so much!

Costumes…back to my roots.

Costumes are always a fun thing! So I decided to make a very special one for my baby girl, Luna. We were looking through costumes in a catalog when she came across Wonder Woman. Her heart had been set on it since then and so was mine! Growing up my mom used to call me Wonder Woman because I could open a two liter bottle all by myself. Now I’ve got a little Wonder Woman of my own! So now I’m back to my roots! I get to enjoy making another costume! Always a favorite hobby of mine. Now I just gotta find the time to put mine together last minute!

Enjoy the photos. More to come with Luna as Wonder Woman!

As promised!!!!

Stitch Rock and SORR V.3.0

Another success story! That’s what Stitch Rock was for me. First of all I want to say my thanks. Thank you to Amanda Linton for choosing nevermay to vend at Stitch Rock’s 5th Birthday Party. Thank you to Alison Rognas (nevermay model) for being my little helper at the event. She is the best! And thank you to all the fans that came out to visit and purchase some nevermay gear. You are all the ones who make it happen. It was a lovely time; sold some skirts, necklaces, bags and bracelets. Hope to see you around wearing your pieces! Enjoy some pics of the show below! Oh! and I hope to get picked again next year!

Now lets talk SORR. What is SORR? Swap-O-Rama-Rama V.3.0! Yes, it’s the 3rd event of its kind in South Florida taking place at the awesome IWAN  Independent Working Artist Network in Fort Lauderdale on November 12, 2011. This time Swap will be different. There will be stations where you can sew, tie dye, screen print, make jewelry and accessories all under one roof. Sounds like my little corner of my bedroom. But there will be tons of sewing machines, bands, free beer and delicious food from the food truck vendors. Lets not forget, the fashion show! Shortly after the event begins a fashion show will take place at 6pm featuring local designer’s upcycled friendly fashions and you! If you don’t mind strutting your stuff and showing off what you’ve made the first two hours of the event then go for it! That was a mouth full! If you are interested in attending the event, which you should not miss, go to http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=248426888520828 and be sure to RSVP and share share share!

Bracelets and Earrings, oh! and a new site!

So I finally merged all of my sites into one. Sorta. It was a hectic day for me doing so but it was well worth it. Not only have I changed my site around but I also got to make some more feather earrings that I’ll be selling at my next show. Stitch Rock! Woooohooo! Yes! I’m still so very excited to be accepted as a vendor for this truly amazing show. I’ll have a couple of new clothing pieces, those ever so amazing granny square bff bracelet bagles and feather earrings. They are so hot right now that I thought I’d give them a try and they are coming out fabulous. Since the show is in the beginning of October there will be some earrings for you snazzy Halloween types. You’ll see… Also since all my toddler dresses were sold out at the Odd Duck show you will be seeing more of those at Stitch Rock as well. God I can’t wait for the show. Exactly one month away Hooray! Now to quietly put the kids in their beds and create the night away. Chiao!

Ruffly Girly Skirts and Dresses

So I’ve been so busy these days once again. Still searching for a house, preparing my son for his first day of preschool, worrying about my dad’s cancer, scuba diving and oh yeah, I’ve been sewing again. I guess I had a sewing block. I started working on a skirt. It’s sort of a “steam punk” kinda skirt. Its made from recycled materials for sure. I’m using a maroon stretchy cotton fabric along with a soft sheer beige fabric. I named her “With Icing on Top!” I don’t usually do tutorials or I forget to take pictures while I make stuff but I think I’ve been doing pretty good with catching up on this one. Enjoy the photos and a soon to be reveal!

Tiered and Ruffly!

Bow!

Ok, so my inspiration. I was watching a bunch of Hope Sandoval videos one night when I saw her wearing this extra ruffly yet soft but flowy skirt. It suit her perfect and I thought, why not make a skirt she’d love. So this is for you Hope! With Icing On Top!

Fun Times at Odd Duck!

So I did my first Odd Duck a few weeks ago and it went great! I sold a bunch of old stuff that I was happy and a little sad to see go. I also sold some new stuff as well. Thanks to Saskia and Irene for hanging out with me at my booth! It really helps having company while vending.
Not only did I have a successful day at the Duck but I also sold the Phish dress that you see the lovely Alison wearing in the photoshoot. It sold about a week before Odd Duck and it was my first etsy sale ever. I not only want to thank Alison for how rockin’ she looked in the dress but also for Ajsha’s amazing photography, for all the people who favorited the dress on Etsy and also for Miraculous Creations for adding the dress to an Etsy treasury. Without your help it would have never sold. And now a quote from the buyer:
“Thank you sooooo much. It is very cool and fits perfect! I can’t wait to put it on for Phish tour this summer!!!! Have a wonderful day! *Kelly*”
This makes me feel great! Also while standing in line at Indy Craft Bazaar-Spring Fling, I overheard two girls talking behind me. One was telling the other how at Odd Duck there was one vendor that had cute boy short panties made out of t-shirts up on a clothesline. It gave me chills up my spine knowing that they were talking about nevermay.
Now some more stuff that makes me happy! Since John and I decided to put house shopping on hold we decided to do some renovating where we are currently staying. The list is long, but I’ve been scratching things off on a regular basis. So far we’ve opened up some boxes of home decor that’s been boxed up and stored in our closets for the past year and a half. I almost forgot what was in there. We were able to hang curtains we’ve missed, take out and place scented candles around the house, and we even were able to fix all the kitchen cabinet doors that kept falling off. Yes! I now have doors on my pantry! It makes the kitchen look so nice and organized now. We’ve also been able to save a ton of money by buying and selling on good old craigslist. Instead of spending almost 3 grand on a new bedroom set we were able to spend only $1400! And that included a brand new memory foam king mattress. We have so much space on the new bed I can do a cartwheel on it. Although I haven’t tried. I also did a ton of landscaping work, both the front yard and back. So my deadline for all this remodling is May 14th. I’m planning on having JD’s birthday party at my house this day and I really want the backyard to be ready for the bounce house I’m planning on having that there. We’ll see. Deadlines put on a lot of preassure but they also make you get things done.
Back to nevermay! I’m taking a break just until after the end of May. May is a busy month for me and my little family. First, my birthday, which I don’t care about anymore. Ha ha! It’ll pass. Second, Mother’s Day. That I do care about! Then JD’s big 4th on the 14th. Then the big 4 year wedding anniversary on the 19th in which we are probably going to try to take a trip or a cruise somewhere. Then, which I’m hoping will never have to happen again, my dad’s big surgery on the 24th. The kids and I will be travling to Chicago before that time to be with him. I’ll still be sewing and creating during this month when I can get my hands on some thread and yarn and FABRIC! Oh! Keep an eye out for some new nevermay listings on Etsy soon! Ciao!

I hope you like the new listings and please share my new business with your family and friends. Thanks!

i’m not much of a writer

although i’d like to be. anyways, i decided to start my own thing. its been about a year since i’ve been thinking about this and i now have the opportunity. i’ve been off work for 2 years now from being layed off, and it’s been great. i was able to spend time with my two children and just be a mother to them. last year i moved to south florida with my husband and the kids not even knowing what would be in store for me. i was lost because i remembered the last time i moved here and i didn’t have any friends for those 2 years. i wasn’t going to let it happen again so i went on a hunt for some cool hip mama friends. thats when i met Veezie, Heather, and Jackie all at once! it was great! i felt like i finally belonged. its hard to be a first time mom and not have any of your other friends not even be close to having a child so this was super for me!
back when i was 13 i used to sew by hand and create all my outfits for school. come high school i got my own sewing machine. i took a sewing class and really started to progress. i made halloween costumes for myself and my friends. anywhere from  Rainbow Bright to Columbia from rocky horror. it was tons a fun. when i moved to south florida i had mostly winter clothes from the north (Chicago). so cut cut cut, snip snip snip and alacadabra! summer clothes!
veezie and heather noticed my what they called “dirty peaches” skills and i asked me to join them in there business adventure. i had been thinking months before that i wanted to start my own thing but i wasnt sure how to even begin. i was the new girl in town and i didnt know anyone in the biz. so, i went for it! we had great times together collaborating, sewing, creating. we learned a lot from each other. everything was going swell until time crept up on me. i thought everyday about doing my own thing but was having so much fun with the girls.
so yeah, the 2 years were up. meaning, my unemployment. work, yes, a real job is coming around the corner. what i’ve dreaded for years (only 2). i’m not ready for it. but, john and i are getting close to owning our 3rd home and we cannot lose it again. i will not let that happen. so, i decided to quit the dpc and give myself some time to actually start looking for a real job. hopefully it will just be a part time job or something i can do from home. this is actually a good thing once again for me. i get to start my own business. slowly and in a relaxing calm matter i will become something great.

so this is basically my life so far for the past 2 years, with a little bit of old school in there.
i really hope you enjoy what i put out as far as clothing, accessories, hand bags, jewelry, you name it. i’ve got a lot of creative ideas in my head and i’m so ready to push them out of my machine!
